Kathy Goble was a warm, compassionate and caring person. But the tragic circumstances of her death have overshadowed her life. Her son, Jason McCartney, decided that he wanted something positive to result from the loss of his mother. Together with organizer and friend, Jeff Crist, and family spokesman Billy Herrald, they developed the Hope Walk in Memory of Kathy Goble and have pledged funds from the walk to Hope House – the YWCA Resolve Family Abuse Program’s shelter for domestic violence victims and their children. Kathy would have been pleased to know that the proceeds from the walk will equip Hope House with much-needed playground equipment and a pre-school computer. In her memory, and to offer hope and healing to all, we invite you to take the Hope Walk for Hope House on Saturday, May 25.

Take a Stand Against Racism on Friday, April 26, 2013
Do more than just say you detest racism. Take a stand against it on Friday, April 26, 2013. Groups of any size are invited to be part of the Stand Against Racism movement and stage an event—private or public—where participants gather to take a pledge against racism and demonstrate zero-tolerance for discrimination in any form. Civic, social, corporate, faith or school-based groups are encouraged to participate in addressing the root causes of racism by encouraging conversations across diverse communities in the US—and by taking a visible and verbal stand against racism.
Do a walk. Make a sign. Write a poem. Act it out in pantomime on the street. Invite others to join you. But whatever you do, don’t just sit silently while racism rages on and on—take a stand against racism in whatever way best suits you.

The YWCA Charleston is taking its Stand Against Racism by sponsoring an art contest for all children up to and including age 12 who participate in our programs. Our talented young artists will create works of art that inspire, enlighten and empower all to stand with the YWCA against racism and discrimination of any kind.
