Nora Myers: Entrepreneurship
In one sentence, can you tell me what you're most known for?
I promote business growth, personal development, and education in my home state of West Virginia with a focus on women and diversity based on my business background, travels and strong sense of fairness and justice.
Tell me a little bit about yourself and what you do:
I run and helped develop the WV Women's Business Center using my background in business, entrepreneurship and women’s empowerment. We focus on women and minority-owned small businesses in all 55 counties, providing 1:1 advising, training, mentoring, and access to capital. We are a program of Partner Community Capital, a community development financial institution focused on lending to businesses in underserved areas to spur economic growth and strengthen communities.
What makes you passionate about what you do?
I have been a feminist all of my life, and the intersection of my business background and promotion of women’s empowerment and diversity within the WV Women's Business Center perfectly captured my talents and interest. I want all women to have economic empowerment which not only fuels greater individual choice, but supports wealthier economies and communities. Economic self-sufficiency, economic mobility, and generating innovation in our communities through the women that live in them is what drives me.
Any other information you'd like to add or include?
I am a West Virginia native and am proud that there are organizations in my state devoting their time to work on diversity and equity education. Economic empowerment for women is a very recent achievement, and it goes hand-in-hand with work around inclusion and diversity. Access and opportunity for lower income and rural women is especially important, and there is still much work to be done. I am happy to be a part of that work in progress.
